  • Ancient Rome: The Romans held pearls in the highest regard. During the reign of Julius Caesar, a law was passed that only the ruling classes could wear pearls. Pearls were symbols of social status and were used in jewelry, crowns, and adornments for the wealthy.
  • Ancient China: In China, pearls were associated with wisdom and purity. Chinese royalty often incorporated pearls into their crowns and jewelry. There’s also evidence that pearls were used in medicinal treatments, believed to offer various health benefits.
